When the ‘From’ and ‘To’ time is given lakshmi puja can start within that time frame including Lakshmi puja.įollowing date and times are for Diwali Lakshami Puja Muhurtha / Moorat / Muhurta. This is lakshami ‘aahavahana time'(invocation time). This means Lord Ganesha Puja and the sankalpa can be finished before this time. When the exact time is given this is sthira lagna and sthira navamasha and one can start puja 24 minutes before the specified time and importantly it’s best to start lakshami puja at the given time. Diwali will be still on Oct 28th for wearing new clothes, visiting the temple, give diwali gifts and other celebrations. Remember according to dharmashastra, amavasya+pradoshakala combination is main for lakshami puja. In those places, the laxmi puja mahurat is defined to be on the previous day.
Some places, amavasya doesn’t prevai during pradoshakala on diwali day, and it does prevail on the previous day of diwali. Lakshmi pujan needs to be done during pradosha kala and sthira lagna and sthira navamasha is taken where available in following muhurthas. It can end at 18:00, 18:09 or 28:27 (anytime after 24 means time after midnight but before next day sunrise), or whatever.Īccording to Dharma Sindhu and Nirnay Sindhu, when amavasya is pradoshakala vyapini take that one for the lakshmi puja, if it on both days take the second day, even if it prevails for one ghatika (24 minutes). This means if prathama tithi ends today at 23:02 it doesn’t mean that dwitiya tithi will end tomorrow at the same time. They can change anytime between one sunrise to another sunrise, between one midnight to another midnight.
The hindu date (tithi - depends on the positions of sun and the moon at any given time) changes at anytime as celestial bodies keep moving. That’s called the hindu day (Sunday, Monday etc…). So we have a day from one sunrise to another sunrise. How is hindu calendar different from English calendar? The English date and the day (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday etc.) changes at the midnight where as the hindu date or tithi (the festival falls in to) doesn’t change at the midnight, and hindu day also doesn’t change at the midnight. Hindu festivals are usually calculated off hindu calendar. So, what time is most auspicious for Laxmi pujan? Why is there not a fixed time all over the world when the puja can be done?
